Patrick Curry’s Thoughts on Game Design

How often do you get to find out that the game you’re currently working on will be bundled with one of your favorite films, and then in the same week also find out that your last game is now downloadable for cheap on Steam? What… that can only happen like once every two or three years, right? Well, that was this week for me.

First off Midway and Sony announced that we’d be filling up all that extra disc space on the PS3 collector’s edition of Stranglehold with a full-length copy of Hard-Boiled. And not just that, but it’s in HD. This should prove once and for all that this is the real-deal. Not only is John Woo putting his name on the box, but he’s putting his masterpiece on there too. I might be wrong, but I think this is the first time anyone has done a full-game and full-film on one disc. Pretty rad.

And secondly Stubbs the Zombie is now available on Steam. Instead of pushing you to go buy it, download it, and play it, I’d like to say thanks to Valve. Thanks for making Steam. It’s awesome. You’ve created an awesome way for little games like Stubbs and my fave Psychonauts to get a second lease on life. I’ve always wished that the videogame industry had a second market, like how films have DVD releases after their theatrical runs. And well, now we do. Thanks!

I’m still working insanely hard on Stranglehold, so the website updates will be a bit slow. But hang in there, we’re almost done…
