Bursting at the seams…

We knew it would happen. Stranglehold has officially gotten too big for its own britches. Last week our Perforce server passed the 1,075GB milestone… which means we’ve accumulated about as much information on our severs as NASA had on theirs when they were planning the first lunar landing. Granted, we’re not exactly putting men on the moon. But give our programmers enough time, and they’d probably figure it out. Massive D is totally rocket-science to me…

Speaking of NASA. They have released version 1.4 or World Wind. It’s their 3d globe software. Here is a nice preview.

Not only is it a 3d globe of Earth but Earth’s moon, Mars, and Jupiter as well. 3d globe programs like this and Google Earth are so inspiring. I wish I could grab some of the height maps from these programs and stick them in the Unreal or Far Cry engine. Awesome reference material and it’s free.

I just got around to checking out that video. That’s totally awesome. It looks like you could make a couple of my game ideas with that software: Project Luna and Grand Canyon! Sweet! Now all I need are some game ideas set on Mars and Jupiter. :-)
