John Woo’s Stranglehold Re-Revealed

If you’re just here for the game ideas, then move along. Otherwise I have some cool news to share…

First off, the game I’m working on at Midway is John Woo’s Stranglehold.

John Woo directed some of the most-classic Hong Kong action films of all time, namely A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, and Hard-Boiled. He’s since moved to the states and has been directing movies here since the early-90s; Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II being his big hits.

Stranglehold is actually a sequel to Hard-Boiled, and the game stars Chow Yun Fat (who you’d recognize from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) reprising his role as the main character from the film.

Ok, now that I’m done name-dropping, on to the second piece of cool news…

Midway announced Stranglehold back at E3 of last year, but has since been pretty mum about things… until now. The March issue of Game Informer magazine has a big spread on the game, with a ton of screenshots and concept art. I’m sure they’ll make their way online eventually, along with official websites and all that jazz. But if you’re the impatient type, then grab a copy of GI.

Disclaimer: I can in no way take credit for anything in those screenshots. There’s an amazing art team at Midway and I’m constantly amazed by what they do. I’m just the guy who tries to make shooting two pistols at once while diving through the air really damn fun.
