Wow. It’s been ten whole days and not a single new game idea. It’s been a refreshing and somewhat confusing ten days. What will I do with all this spare time now that I’m not racking my brain trying to pull rabbits out of a hat? Well, I have a few ideas, and while none of them are quite the project that the 52 was, they’re worth mentioning. And if I want 2007 to be anything like 2006, posting my resolutions in public will help me keep them.
I don’t write a lot about work on my website because, well… because this is my website. But Stranglehold is coming along nicely and 2007 is the year that we drop this puppy onto the unsuspecting public. Needless to say, this will consume a good deal of my life, and listing any other resolutions seems like a futile endeavor. But as a way to keep things light and give myself a modestly-non-work-related creative outlet, I’m going to contribute more to Stranglehold’s blog over on 1up. If anything earth shattering about work comes up, I’ll mention it here. Otherwise it will be there.
Ok if my bosses see this I’m dead. But I found that writing a weekly game idea really cut into my game playing time, and I’ve accrued an epic stack of games that I want to play through. I finally tracked down a Wii (thanks to Neill and his remarkable Wiidar), and I’m really excited about flailing around like a fool pretending to bowl and play tennis in my living room. I’m sure I’ll sneak in a shooter or two, but the Wii has my full gaming attention… that is until my arm gets sore and I revert to the couch or my office chair. And hey, playing games is a fun and inspirational way to blow off steam when I’m not working!
Some time in 2003 I began writing a bunch about games. I was heavily inspired by Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics, and I set off on my own journey to discover what I thought was important in games and game design. Some of what I wrote was halfway decent, and it has helped refine my personal process and philosophy towards making games. Perhaps some of that shown through in the better of the 52 game ideas. And some of it is complete rubbish, and I’m sure glad I wasn’t posting on a website like this back then. But I’ve started writing more about just games, and I’ve caught the bug again.
So those are the big three: Make a game. Play some games. And write about games. And try to stay sane in the process. Wish me luck.

Your passion is both exciting and inspiring. Especially since you are so willing to share it with the world. Thanks for the insight, big brother!
Good luck and congrats again on a big year!! Just remember, when things get crazy in ‘07, you can always sit on the new couch and read a book — or challenge me (AKA the Ultimate Fighting Champion) to some Wii boxing.
Bring it!
Good luck!
