For a “cloud gaming” service to go gangbusters, it has to seriously improve my gaming experience and save me time. “Netflix of games”, is a big promise. Here’s what I want...

1. When I decide I want to play a game, let me immediately start playing the game via remote render, even if it’s at a lower resolution than normal. And I mean right away — no install, no load times, no BS.

2. When I’m done with that first session, ask if I still like the game and want to keep playing or not. If yes, start downloading the game to my PC/console when I have free bandwidth.

3. Let me decide to keep playing from a single “play now” button. Don’t make me remember what’s been downloaded or not. Just shove the best version of gameplay at me that’s ready right this minute.

4. When I decide to play the game, smoothly switch to the option that’s currently best for me: rendering locally on this device, rendering on my console that’s on the LAN, or rendering remotely in your cloud. Your pick!

5. Make it crazy easy for me to pick up exactly where I left off between sessions and across devices. If I was customizing my character on my phone during a bus ride, that’s where I want to resume on my console at home.

6. Keep all my save game data sync’d up between all my devices. Yeah this is crazy obvious, but lots of games still make weird assumptions about the relationship between players and devices.

7. Make booting directly into a mid-game savepoint a system-wide TCR. I don’t want to get hung up on ten minutes of legal disclaimers or be reminded about the “now saving” icon.

8. Let me quickly log into my account at my friend’s house on his devices so we can have a LAN party. Ideally let me play my full library from their house without forcing my kids to stop playing at home.

9. Make “remote controllers” another system-wide feature. If I can’t get to game night and still want to play couch co-op, let me use my friend’s console as the remote-render host, and play with them as if I was in the room.

10. Let me opt-in to rent my console to render gameplay for my friends. We’re lucky to have fiber and if the neighborhood kids could pay me by-the-minute to play our game library, we’d all be thrilled!

That’s it for now! All the discussions about pricing and business model get much easier if the service is providing me with clear benefits and value from day one. I hope someone makes this!
