Quick story time: a long time ago I sent in an application to be an artist at a game studio. The first step in the process was an art test.

So I did the art test, and after some false starts I got the art working in-game. I was super proud and I sent in the test to the studio.

I never heard back from the submission. I was bummed out, but whatever, I was busy making websites during the day, and mods at night.

A year or two later a friend got a job at that same studio, and he knew me from my mods, so he hired me to work on their website. Not bad!

Eventually I got to go visit the studio and share progress on the website. It was like visiting Disneyland. They even took me to Taco Bell.

One of the art directors was like "Patrick Curry, huh?" Maybe an hour or two later he shows up saying "hey your art wasn't total shit." Rad!

Hearing that meant the world to me. I didn't get the artist job, and the website we made only turned out OK. But I had a friend in the biz.

We'd run into each other at industry stuff, but he lived in a different city. Years later I ran into him on the street in Austin.

It turned out our lives had been on a similar path. Many of the same ups and downs. Some of the same heartbreaks. Strangely similar stuff...

That rekindled friendship turned into us starting a company together. Went through ups and down. Tried again... more ups and downs...

I moved away... then home again. We started *another* company together. Got it off the ground. Shipped some games. Had more ups and downs.
